David Jewitt and Hairong Lai This will be a two part talk centered on the theme of on-going collisions in the solar system. In the first part, we will describe new Hubble Space Telescope observations of a remarkable object recently discovered in the main asteroid belt. This object appears to be the debris cloud resulting from a collision - the first such object to be directly observed so soon after formation. In the second part we will describe mysterious fluctuations in the interplanetary magnetic field that might be explained by on-going collisions.
