- Jan 2010: Informal discussions with PS faculty

- 02 Feb 2010: PS faculty meeting to discuss PS curriculum

Motion to "charge Chair, Vice Chair,
Graduate Advisor, and Curriculum Committee Chair to
organize a proposal for a new graduate degree program
in planetary sciences that is envisioned to be the
first step towards a more coherent degree program in
our Department" was unanimously approved.
- Apr 2010-Nov 2010: Formal proposal being worked on according to required format
- 17 Nov 2010: Review of proposal draft by PS faculty
- 19 Nov 2010: Review of proposal draft by PS faculty
- 01 Dec 2010: Review of proposal draft by ESS Curriculum Committee
- 06 Dec 2010: Presentation of PS grad program proposal at ESS-wide faculty meeting. 27 attended.
Unanimous approval for proposal submission.
- 04 Jan 2011: Proposal submitted to Kyle McJunkin (College Faculty Executive Committee).
- 06 Jan 2011: Received comments from Kyle McJunkin and his counterpart on the Graduate Council (Kyle Cunningham).
- 21 Apr 2011: Revised proposal submitted to Kyle McJunkin.
- 13 May 2011: McKeegan and Margot present proposal at College Faculty Executive Committee (FEC).
- 17 May 2011: FEC endorses proposal and forwards to Graduate Council for review.
- 09 Sep 2011: Eric Zarate clarifies under what circumstances expedited reviews may be considered by CCGA.
- 26 Oct 2011: Received comments from Graduate Council. Proposal being reviewed by Council on Planning and Budget.
- 29 Oct 2012: Faculty voted to change department name to "Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences".
