Schauble_group_picture

Welcome to the Schauble group web page at UCLA.  Our group currently includes two graduate students, Pamela Hill (left) and Jonathan Hunt (right). We study the chemical properties of natural materials at the atomic level. Our goal is to help develop new chemical measurements to study modern and ancient environments on Earth and the other planets. Current projects include predicting how the stable-isotope compositions of a variety of elements are affected by common chemical reactions like partial oxidation, and modeling the spectroscopic signatures of dissolved silicates. Both projects require detailed understanding of the molecular vibrational frequencies of molecules and crystals, and a number of animated molecular vibrations generated by our research have been placed in a web-accessible archive. More information about predicting stable-isotope separation is available here (PDF alert).
Your feedback is always welcome.
